Beverly Ann Whitkanack, 78, of Paris, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, in Edgar County, as a result of an automobile accident. She was retired after more than 20 years as a speech and English professor at Vincennes University.
Services celebrating her life are 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Templeton Funeral Home, with Bro. Karl Marshall and Pastor Nate Alexander officiating. Burial follows in Edgar Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Whitkanack was born Aug. 17, 1938, at Paris, the 13th of 14 children born to the late Jesse and Delphia Warmouth Scott. She married Kenneth James Whitkanack June 23, 1963, at Marshall, and he survives.
Other survivors include three children, Gwen (Sean) Montgomery of Decatur, Gregg (Camilla) Whitkanack of Paris and Kay (Carter) Whitkanack Crouch of Terre Haute, Ind.; a brother, Ronald Scott of Bennett, Colo.; a sister, Evelyn Horsley of Marshall; six grandchildren, Zachary, Jesse, Raelee, Allison and Heather Crouch, and Alayna Whitkanack; two great-grandchildren, Kaylinn and Elleanna Crouch; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and nine sisters.
Mrs. Whitkanack earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky., and enjoyed teaching alongside her husband throughout her long career in education. She was a member of Lake Ridge Christian Church of Paris. She enjoyed music and was an accomplished pianist, accordionist and organist. She was also a talented cook who loved opening her home to hosting family and friends. Her happiest hours were spent outdoors working in her flower gardens, learning a new craft or creative project and spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all else, she valued her faith and her walk with Christ.
