
Dr. Leland A. Phipps, 64, of Paris, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He joined the staff of the Paris Medical Center Clinic in 1981 and practiced there for the past 36 years.
The funeral service is 11 a.m.Friday, May 26, at the First Presbyterian Church of Paris. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m.Thursday, May 25, at the church. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Dr. Phipps was born Nov. 20, 1952, at Kankakee, the son of the late Ogden A. and Margaret Jean Honnold Phipps.
He is survived by Carol (Spaulding) Phipps, his wife of 35 years; two sons, Michael William Phipps of Urbana and Franklin Oliver Phipps and his fiancée Kelsey Elaine Shaffer of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Thomas O. Phipps of Afton, Okla.; and sister, Jean (Nick) Hoyle of Woodridge.
Dr. Phipps was a graduate of Northwestern University with a B.S. in engineering and his medical degree from the University of Illinois Medical Center. He served his residency in family practice at the University of Kansas. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, as well as the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association, Edgar County Medical Society, Southern Illinois Medical Association, Illinois State Medical Society, American Diabetes Association, and the World Organization of Family Doctors.
