
Mary Ellen "Mel" Bibo, 86, of Paris, passed away at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Meadows Manor North, Terre Haute, Ind.
Services celebrating her life are 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, at Templeton Funeral Home. Burial follows in Edgar Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the service time Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bibo was born Dec. 28, 1930, at Tuscola, the daughter of the late Walter and Buelah Burmeister Weasel. She married John J. Bibo Aug. 1, 1953, at Pesotum, and he preceded her in death June 19, 1993.
Survivors include two sons, J. Michael (Patti) Bibo of Galesburg and Douglas Bibo of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandsons, Matt (Sarah) Bibo of Shorewood and Greg Bibo of Galesburg; and three great-grandchildren, Addison, Alivia and Mattux, all of Shorewood.
Mrs. Bibo attended school in Tuscola and went on to attend Colorado Women's College before earning her Bachelor's Degree in English from Millikin University, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. As the wife of an Air Force Officer, she moved many times and lived in many parts of the country prior to returning to her husband’s hometown of Paris in 1973.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Paris and served on the boards of United Way of Edgar County and the former Edgar County Children's Home. She was also co-chair of Positive Youth Development. In addition, she was a devoted member of the Edgar Cemetery Board for many years where she worked diligently to preserve and replenish the trees of the cemetery.
Mrs. Bibo especially enjoyed bridge, and was a member of the Paris Duplicate Bridge Club as well as the famous "Party Bridge Gals." She was happiest when enjoying her family and friends. She had a contagious smile and will be greatly missed.
