BOULDER, Colo. – Richard Allen Krumpeck, 81, of Boulder, Colo., passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Boulder. He was a retired school counselor from the Boulder Valley School District.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Feb. 4 at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 355 Ponca Place, Boulder, Colo. 80303.
Mr. Krumpeck was born May 28, 1935, at Paris. He married Ruth Ann Smutz of Paris in 1959. He later married Linda Atkins in 2002, and she survives.
He is also survived his brother, Fred (Pat) Krumpeck of Santa Clarita, Calif.; his four children, Randy (Cindy) Krumpeck, Renise (Steve Johnson) Krumpeck, Ryan (Emilia Costales) Krumpeck and Rachelle (Brevin Bourassa) Krumpeck; stepdaughters, Lisa Flowers and Lori Chiappe; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Garrett) Keck, Haley (Luke) Crumb, Dylan Krumpeck, Dustin Krumpeck, Drew (Grace Alexander) Davis, Jayna (Dan Butler) Davis, Anna Reed and Ellie Reed; great‑grandchildren Lily, Mitchell, Max and Ruby Crumb and Scott Keck; his dog, Buddy; and a large extended family.
He graduated from Paris High School in 1953 and attended Indiana University and Indiana State University. He was a teacher and counselor in both Indiana and Illinois before he and Ruth moved to Colorado in 1972 with their four children. He spent 15 years at Fairview High School in Boulder before finishing his career at Baseline and Louisville Middle Schools.
Mr. Krumpeck and Linda greatly enjoyed retired life together, where they were always out and about spending time with family and friends and going on long drives. They were members of Mountain View Methodist Church.
He was an accomplished pianist and church organist for more than 60 years and began playing at the age of 15 in Paris at the First United Methodist Church. In Boulder, he was the organist at Community United Church of Christ and also played for several other churches. He enjoyed playing for special occasions and to entertain his family and friends.
He was well loved and will be greatly missed. He will be remembered as a devoted father, husband and friend with an infectious sense of humor, quick wit and a specialty for lengthy jokes with terrible punch lines or puns to bring a smile. He made friends everywhere he went, and his caring nature led him to encourage thousands of kids to believe in themselves. As he would say, “Bloom where you’re planted.”
