Judith Lenz

PEORIA, Ariz. – Word has been received of the Sept. 23, 2016, death at Sun City, Ariz., of Judith Phipps Lenz, 69, of Peoria, Ariz. She retired in 2011 after a long career with the City of Phoenix administration.

Cremation was accorded and no service information was provided. Interment occurred at the Sun City Congregational Church Columbarium. 

Mrs. Lenz was born April 2, 1947, the daughter of the late John and Mary Louise Phipps. She married Jerry Lenz in Phoenix, Ariz., and her preceded her in death in December 2013.

She is survived by a sister, Connie Brown of Avon, Ind.; two brothers, John Phipps of Chrisman and Henry Phipps of Orlando, Fla.; and 10 nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Phipps grew-up on a seventh generation family farm near Chrisman. She earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Radcliffe College. After graduation, she taught mathematics at Wheaton Central High School and edited math textbooks. She also held a seat and worked as a commodity speculator on the MidAmerican Commodity Exchange at Chicago.

She was a member of the Sun City Congregational Church.

MARSHALL – Edward E. Carpenter, 65, of Marshall, passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at his home. He was a retired painting contractor.

Services in honor of his life are 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Pearce Funeral Home, with Pastor Tim Duke officiating. Burial is in the Auburn Cemetery. Visitation is from noon until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Carpenter was born Sept. 22, 1951, at Pontiac, Mich., the son of the late Everett and Helen Williamson Carpenter.

Surviving are his companion of many years, Lori Mullen; a son, Edward (Heather) Carpenter of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Makenna Carpenter, Ryder Carpenter and Cruz Carpenter; two stepchildren, Charlene Mullen and Sam Mullen both of Marshall; siblings, Hugh (Chris) Carpenter of Clinton, Ind., Helen Gorman of Lafayette, Ind., Henry (Tammy) Carpenter of Marshall and Mike (Mary) Wheeler both of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George Carpenter; a nephew, George Carpenter; a sister-in-law, Vonnie Carpenter and a brother, Robert Carpenter.


He was a member of the Odd Fellows and had worked on the slopes of Alaska. 
He liked Indy Car and NASCAR racing and had loved watching his son participate in quarter midget racing all the way to Indy Car racing. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and lived life to the fullest.

MARSHALL – Lura Carolyn Piety Staub, 89, of Marshall, died peacefully Oct. 19, 2016, at Burnsides Community Care Center.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Augustine Koomson as celebrant. Burial is in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 to 10:50 a.m. Friday at Pearce Funeral Home.

Mrs. Staub was born March 17, 1927, the daughter of the late Coral Warrick Piety and Cecil Piety. She grew up in Prairie Creek, Ind., and was called Carolyn all her life. She married Donald Eugene Staub after three months of courtship.

She is survived by five children, Mary Jean (Tom Warren) Barber, Marcia Sue (Pat Duzan) Murphy, Kathleen Marie (Tom) Ballard, Michael Eugene (Candace) Staub and Diane Lynn (Matt) Nestleroad; 14 grandchildren, Jason Barber, Stephanie (Brandon) Williams, Erin (Tim McHenry) Murphy-McHenry, Sean Murphy, Daniel Murphy, Patrick Murphy, Anna Murphy, Nathaniel Staub, Isaac (Lacey) Staub, Gabrielle Staub, Jairus Staub, Micah Staub, Laurel Staub and Evan Nestleroad and; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jalynn, Thomas, Riley, Donovan and Cormac.

After graduation with a bachelor’s degree in music education from Indiana State University, she became a music teacher. Wearing bright red lipstick as she drove the yellow convertible she bought with her own paycheck, she wooed her future husband with her style. She later became a homemaker to care for their growing family.

Mrs. Staub loved to laugh and have a good time. She helped direct the choir at St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she regularly attended Mass. She also played cards with a bridge club for many years.

The Staubs hosted family parties where she set the tone for fun by playing Nat King Cole and the Big Band music of Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman, starting euchre games and helping lay out a bounteous spread of food for the family. She imparted a love, humor and appreciation of music to her family members.

Leo Milton Woodyard, 94, of Paris, passed away at 5:40 a.m., Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Life’s Journey Senior Living. He was previously employed at the Illinois Cereal Mill.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rick Cook officiating. Burial follows in Franklin Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 211 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3601. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at the funeral home.

Mr. Woodyard was born Dec. 17, 1921, at Bushton, the son of the late John Milton and Sarah Lou Isey Keigley Woodyard. He married Norma Jean Holley Woodyard, Jan. 8, 1944, at Oakland, and she passed away June 22, 2011.

He is survived by five children, Gloria Jeanne Barlet of Danville, Bev G. (Wayne) Parrish of Danivlle, Ronald Leo (Kathy) Woodyard of Paris, Mary Beth (Rob) Straub of Apollo Beach, Fla., and Sue Ellen (Phil) Tribby of Paris; eight grandchildren, Holley (Joseph) Lerner of Danville, Kevin (Jenelle) Parrish of Liberty; Kim Parrish of Tilton, A.J. Woodyard of Champaign, Amanda (Brad) Bandy of Brandon, S.D., Jennifer Woodyard, Amie (Nathan) Haines of Marshall and Jacob Furnish of Paris; and six great-grandchildren, Daniel Parrish, Reid Parrish, Avery Parrish, Sadie Parrish, Becca Bandy and Bria Haynes.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.

Mr. Woodyard was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of Horace Baptist Church.

Nick Dreistadt

OAKLAND – Nicholas Thomas “Nick” Dreistadt, 90, of Charleston, and formerly of Oakland, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016. He spent more than 30 years in management with Fruehauf and Trailmobile, Inc. After retiring, he continued as a consultant and traveled as far as Germany.

Funeral services are noon Saturday, Oct. 29, at Krabel Funeral Home. Burial follows in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the noon service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Dreistadt was born June 4, 1926, at Penn, Pa., the son of the late Nicholas P. and Sophie Hoak Dreistadt. He married Ruth Anne Magruder Temples Dreistad Jan. 28, 1988, at Honolulu, Hawaii, and she survives.

He is also survived by a stepson, James S. (Deana Lee) Temples of Oakland; stepdaughter, Brenda Temples (John Lutz) of Ashmore; six step-grandchildren, Kendall (Jon) Goebel of Champaign, John W. (Katie Blakeman) Temples Jr. of Casey, Jamie (David) Schneider of Nashville, Tenn., Derek Skinner of Ashmore, Jada (Jason Shafer) Temples of Findlay and Taylor (Dustin) Smith of Effingham; and six step-great-grandchildren, Blakelee Goebel, Madison Skinner, Jaxon Temples, Aubree Goebel, Jemma Schneider and Aiden Blakeman; also, Shay Martin of Mattoon, who was like a granddaughter to him; two brothers, Henry (JoAnn) Dreistadt of River Falls, Wis., and Bob (Georgenne) Dreistadt of Jeanette, Pa.; sister-in-law, Jeanne (Coach) Barr of Shreveport, La.; brothers-in-law, Tom (Paula) Magruder of Danville, Jack (Deb) Magruder of Ft. Myers, Fla., Jim (Carol) Magruder of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Dan (Mary) Magruder of Champaign; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Reidmiller; a brother, Len Dreistadt; a stepson, John W. Temples; a step-granddaughter, Kala Danielle Temples; and his wife’s parents, Glenn and Catherine Magruder

Mr. Dreistadt tried to join the U.S. Navy at age 16 and was turned away He enlisted at 17 and was assigned to the USS Denver, a light cruiser. He served in the Navy during World War II from Jan. 4, 1944, to Jan. 21, 1948, earning medals and citations and participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the last major battle in the Pacific theater.
 He was discharged as a WT2C (Water Tender 2nd Class).      

He was patriotic and participated in the Oakland Park Memorial Day and Veterans Day celebrations honoring fallen vets for as long as he was able.


 Mr. Dreistadt owned and operated Video Memories, Inc., where he and his crew filmed each golfer on a par 3 hole and a tape was handed to each player as they left the green. 
His hobbies were golfing, playing cards with his friends and bowling. He outscored Johnny Petraglia, a PBA bowler, earlier in his bowling career.

He loved and spoiled his pets, including his big dog Gizmo, a Great Pyrenees, and Sophie and Sammie, his two little West Highland White Terriers He was a member of the Victory Church in Camargo

Margaret Zischke

Margaret Lynne Morris Zischke, 60, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at home. She was a grade school teacher for many years.

A local memorial service will be announced at a later date. Templeton Funeral Home in Paris is assisting with local arrangements.

Mrs. Zischke was born Feb. 5, 1956, at Metcalf, the daughter of the late John Robert "Bob" and Margaret Anne (Stark) Morris. She married Mark Zischke, and he survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Erin Zischke; a son, Doug Zischke; two brothers, Barry and John Morris; and a sister, Sue Anne Casey.

Mrs. Zischke was a 1974 Shiloh High School graduate.

Daisy Richardson

 Daisy L. Richardson, 97 of Allerton, passed away at her home Oct. 26, 2016. 

Graveside services are 2:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at Edgar Cemetery. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. 

Mrs. Richardson was born Feb. 8, 1919, at Watertown, Tenn. She married Leslie Richardson May 24, 1940, and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughters, Velma (Larry) Liddle of Huntley, Wilma (William) Ellis of Longview and Beverly Richardson of Danville; sons Jerry (Phyllis) Richardson of Hume, Kenneth (Susan) Richardson of Boca Raton, Fla., Everett Richardson of Champaign, Jim (Chris) Richardson of Allerton and Patrick (Lisa) Richardson of Carlsbad, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; and 31great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sons, Danny Richardson and Elmer Richardson; an infant daughter; three sisters, Bertha Gilbert, Golie Lucas and Ella Jones; and a daughter-in-law, Tracy Richardson.

Mrs. Richardson enjoyed having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren around her. The Village of Allerton honored her 96th birthday with a key to the village as the oldest resident and honoring her long residency in the community. Mrs. Richardson moved to Allerton in 1967.

Harold Henson

CANON CITY, Colo. – Harold W. Henson, 83, of Canon City, Colo., passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016. He retired as a deputy warden from the Colorado Department of Corrections after a 28-year career.

Funeral services are 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28, at Holt Family Funeral Home, 806 E. Macon, Canon City, Colo., with the Rev. Sean Meagher officiating.

Mr. Henson was born Nov. 24, 1932, at Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of the late George and Mildred Henson. He married Marian Leitch Henson Dec. 29, 1951, at the Paris First Christian Church, and she survives.

He is also survived by his children, Rhonda (Joe) Shroba of Fort Collins, Colo., Patrick (Lisa) Henson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; siblings, Gerald Henson and June Raymer, both of Paris; four grandchildren, Michael Jenson, Renee Jensen, Amanda (Chris) Rivera and Sara Henson; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty.

Mr. Henson completed watch school in Elgin and has taken a number of college courses since then. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the National Guard. He was a 24-year member of the Fremont Sanitation District.

MARSHALL – Shaun R. Woolard, 29, of Marshall, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2016, in an automobile accident south of Marshall.

Having graduated from culinary school, he worked as a chef in various restaurants in Phoenix, New Orleans and played trumpet in various clubs in New Orleans.

Services honoring his life are 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at Pearce Funeral Home. Burial is in Harrison Cemetery, rural West Union. Visitation is from 3 p.m. until the 5 p.m. service Monday.

Mr. Woolard born March 28, 1987 at Terre Haute, Ind., the son of Robert and Terry Snyder Peel.

He is survived by his mother, Terry Peel; a sister, Shannon (Keith) Bastian of Ft. Branch, Ind.; two nephews, Jarrett and Reid; and his companion, Donna and her children, Isabel, Sarah and Natalie.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Madelyn Gale; and his father.

Alice L. Gale, 80, of Paris, passed away at 5:42 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, in the emergency room at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, Ind. During life, she was employed by Zenith Corp., Unarco and was a home health care worker for Lincoln Land. 

Following cremation, a memorial service is 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to the service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Gale was born July 27, 1936, at Gary, Ind., the daughter of the late Charles Taylor Sr. and Elizabeth Lenhart Taylor. She married Lonzo Gale, and he preceded her in death in 1985. 

Survivors include her children, Dennis Gale of Pittsburg, Calif., Jeffery (Shelia) Gale of Fredericksburg, Md., Eric (Paulette) Gale of Berlin, N.H., Debra (Luigi) Chiaia of Orange Park, Fla., and Scott (Shelley) Gale of Paris; 11 grandchildren, Bryan Morris of Illinois, Kris Gale of Illinois, Nicole Ritter of Florida, Erica Ritter of Florida, Alessia Chiaia of Florida, Luigi A. Chiaia of Florida, Elizabeth Gale of New Hampshire, Erica Gale of New Hampshire, Alex Gale of California, Gwen Gale of California and Liz Gale of California; and 15 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by a daughter Pamela Gerber; and siblings, Charles Wesley Taylor Sr., Florence N. Taylor, Florence Rosalie “Rosie” Boness, Emma Marie Gale, Leota May Short, Richard Allen Taylor, Peter William “Bill” Taylor, Charles Wesley Taylor Jr., Hattie Louise Keister, Walter David Taylor, Margaret Elizabeth Covey, Wesley Earl Taylor, John W. Doris “Pete” Gann, 79, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at Terre Haute, Ind. He was a self-employed carpenter.

Private graveside services are in Edgar Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.

Mr. Gann was born July 4, 1937, in Woodbury, Tenn., the son of the late John and Zenobia Finley Gann. He married Harriett Switzer June 16, 1956, at Paris, and she survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Nancy McKnight of Paris; three grandchildren, BJ (Jessica) Blair of Paris, Jamie Craig (Jeremy) Bennett of Camargo and Dustin (Amanda) Blair of Chrisman; seven great-grandchildren, Briar Blair, Kylee Blair, Jeryn Bennett, Dylan Blair, Jace Bennett, Eli Blair and Baine Blair; and and a son-in-law, Bill Blair of Paris. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Blair and two siblings. 

Mr. Gann was a great man who was loved by anyone he came in contact with. He was a people person, who loved to talk, laugh and joke no matter if he was playing with his great-grandkids or his friends at B and J’s.

Doris “Pete” Gann, 79, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at Terre Haute, Ind. He was a self-employed carpenter.

Robbie Gleckler

HOUSTON, Texas – Word has been received of the Sept. 20, 2016, death of Robbie Gleckler at Houston, Texas. He was retired from Syngenta, formally ICI Americas.

Mr. Glecker was born Nov. 13, 1952, at Urbana, the son of the late Carl and Margaret Gleckler. 

He is survived by wife of 35 years, Gail Braquet Gleckler of Houston, Texas; and his sister, Karla Stuber of Etowah, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Gleckler.

Mr. Gleckler moved to Houston for his job with ICI Amercas. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending time with their many friends. He lived his life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Larry Eugene Pitts, 61, of Paris, passed away at 3:28 p.m. EDT Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at Union Hospital, Clinton, Ind. He previously worked as a long haul truck driver for several years.

A graveside service is 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Memorial Gardens cemetery, with the Rev. Tom Armour officiating. Interment will follow. Templeton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Pitts was born Dec. 14, 1954, in Vermillion County, Ind., the son of Martha E. Fonner Pitts and the late James W. Pitts Sr.

Survivors include his mother, Martha Pitts of Paris; a brother, James W. Pitts of Chandler, Ariz.; three sisters, Diana L. (George) David, Mary Lou Pitts and Lisa (Bill) Neu, all of Paris; a daughter, Mandy Jo Pitts of Sharps Chapel, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Lindsey Pitts and Harley Coad of Paris; and a great grandson, Devin Pardi.

He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Pitts II.

Dan Ryals Jr.

Dan B. Ryals Jr., 86, of Paris, passed away at 6:44 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2016, at his residence. He was a retired major from the United States Air Force and also was an engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation. 

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home. Military honors by American Legion Post 211 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3601 will accompany burial in Embarrass Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the service time at the funeral home. 

Mr. Ryals was born Oct. 23, 1930, at Coushatta, La., the son of the late Dan B. Ryals Sr. and Lophia Cannon Ryals. He married Margaret Snider Ryals Feb. 11, 1956, at the base chapel of Harlingen Air Force Base, Texas, and she passed away March 3, 2012. 

Survivors include two children, Deborah Ryals of Buena Park, Calif., and Richard (Diane) Ryals of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Renee Ryals and Collin Ryals; a sister, Virginia Moncrief of Louisiana; a sister-in-law, Mary Flenner of Robinson; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, American Legion Post 211, VFW Post 3601 and 40 et 8.

Bernard Leroy "Butch" Downey Jr., 73, of Taylorville, and formerly of Metcalf, passed away at 4:25 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He worked many years in construction.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at Templeton Funeral Home. Private interment at Young America Cemetery, north of Hume, is at a later date.

Mr. Downey was born Jan. 11, 1943, at Champaign County, the son of the late Bernard L. and Della Jane Phillips Downey Sr.

Survivors include five daughters, Kay Lynn Downey of St. Bernice, Ind., Laura (Robert) Clark of Paris, Jeanette Taylor of Paris, Jeanna (Tim) Waln of Coral Springs, Fla., and Lana (Jeff Lawyer) Waln of Covington, Ind.; a brother, Neil Downey of Hume; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four nieces; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Sandra L. Downey; a sister, Nancy Sharp; a granddaughter, Ashley Clark; and a grandson, Kaleb Clark.

Mr. Downey enjoyed quilting and loved his alma mater, Young America High School.

VERSAILLES, Mo. – Thomas Ray “Tim” Apgar, 67, of Versailles, Mo., passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at his home. He was retired at 30 years as an electrician for the City of Independence, Mo.

Funeral services are 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 4, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, with Chaplain Jeremy Caudel officiating. Graveside services and interment follow at the Versailles Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the service time Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Apgar was born Jan. 30, 1949, at Paris, the son of the late Thomas and Bobbe Markewitz Apgar. He married Sue Apgar Nov. 29, 1980, at Plano, Texas, and she survives.
He is also survived by his sons, Joshua Thomas Cox of Des Moines, Iowa, and John Meredith Cox of Peoria; his daughters, Elizabeth Ann Flanders of Springfield and Arminda “Mindy” Apgar of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; a nephew, Lance Dodson of Raytown, Mo.; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Apgar; and a sister, Michelle Roberts.
Mr. Apgar attended the Versailles United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He enjoyed history, especially studying the War Between the States. He and his wife also enjoyed spending time researching genealogy. Some of his favorite hobbies were, traveling, reading, solving crossword puzzles and spending time working outdoors.

MARSHALL – Crystal D. Saunders, 44, of Marshall, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. She was formerly a waitress and bartender in different area establishments and was currently a mother and homemaker.

Services honoring her life are 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Pearce Funeral Home, with Ken Ball officiating. Visitation is from noon until the service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Saunders was born Oct. 5, 1972, at Hammond, Ind., the daughter of Charles Everett Edwards Jr. and Linda Marshall Leininger Edwards. She married Charles Edward Saunders, who preceded her in death Aug. 13, 2016.

Surviving are her children, Samantha Edwards of Jasonville, Ind., Sierra Risden of Evansville, Ind., Charles Zachary Saunders of Marshall and Zane Alexander Saunders of Marshall; grandchildren, Adalynn Deborah Louise Young and Brysen Charles Everett Baker; her mother of Marshall; her father of Williamsport, Ind.; two sisters, Marilea Plew and Melissa Bruder; and a brother, Charles Kevin Edwards.

Lindy Fisher

MARSHALL – Lindy M. Fisher, 87, of Marshall, passed away 4:33 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at Paris Health Care Center. He was a retired commercial truck driver.

Private graveside services are in the Danville National Cemetery and Masonic services at Pearce Funeral Home are prior to the procession to the cemetery.

Mr. Fisher was born July 1, 1929, at Corning, Ark., the son of William and Mabel Byrd Fisher. He married Barbara Regan Fisher, and she survives.

He is also survived by his children, Jerry, Gary, Pat, Brenda, Donna, Sophia and Rachel; several grand and great-grandchildren; and many brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by a son, Luke.

Mr. Fisher was a veteran of both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps. He served during the Korean War and was a member of the West Union Masonic Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5975 of Marshall.

Mike Baldwin

CHRISMAN – Gary Michael “Mike” Baldwin, 65, of Chrisman, passed away at 7:34 a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2016.

Funeral services are 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 7, a.m. at the Chrisman Church of the Nazarene. Burial follows at Woodland Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the church and again from 10 a.m. until the service Monday at the church. The Krabel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Baldwin was born Jan. 7, 1951, the eldest son of the late John Junior Baldwin and Velva Irene Gill Baldwin. Betty Joan Tingley Jan. 6, 1973, and she survives. They built a life based on love and respect, and he was a faithful husband and devoted father.

He is also survived by his daughter, Alicia (Phillip) Baldwin-Evans of Paris; three sons, Lance Baldwin of Chrisman, Sean Baldwin (Katie Anderson) of Paris and Brett (Andrea) Baldwin of Martinsville; eight grandchildren, Samantha, Hannah, Kendrew, Lillian, Allison, Abigail, Presley and Ayia; a sister, Linda Baldwin; two brothers, James (Cheryl) Baldwin and David Baldwin; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Esther Gill and John and Exia Baldwin; a brother: Lawrence Baldwin; and two grandsons, Gunner and John Michael.

Mr. Baldwin obtained his Associate Degree in Applied Sciences with a concentration in electronics from Danville Area Community College in May 1993.  He had many hobbies that he enjoyed very much including hunting, gardening, and woodcarving. He created beautiful canes and walking sticks carved from local hardwoods. He also enjoyed playing acoustic guitar and singing with his rich and deep baritone voice. His favorite pastime and greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation to support the search for a cure of chronic kidney disease, and the family encourages friends to join the National Donor Registry.
