
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Donice Marguerite Sweeley Heckler Crawford, 94, of Nashville, Tenn., passed away Sept. 22, 2016.
An end of life service is 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Highway 100, Nashville, Tenn. 37221. A reception follows at the Pavilion at Harpeth Hills. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Crawford was born Aug. 26, 1922, at Charleston, the daughter of the late Don and Bernice Sweeley. She marred Thomas Heckler in 1944, and he passed away in 1969. She later married Jim Crawford, who preceded her in death in 2013.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas (Jeanne) of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Scott (Sue) of Jacksonville, Fla., Kip (Cindy) of Acworth, Ga., her daughter, Kandi of Rockvale, Tenn.; stepson Chris (Amy) Crawford; her grandchildren Julie, Carrie, Kristine, Josh, Jennifer, Adam, Jason, Alex, Stephanie, Thomas, Allison, Cody, Drew; and her great-grandchildren Hazel, Stephen, Maia, Henry, Autumn, Maren, Jonah.
Mrs. Crawford graduated from Paris High School. Prior to her 1944 wedding to Thomas Milton Heckler, she worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C. After the sudden death to her husband, she started a career as a secretary in 1970 working at Bellevue and Hillwood High Schools then Churchhill Mortgage until her marriage to Jim Crawford.
A resident of Nashville, Tenn., since 1962, she enjoyed a singing career with the Sweet Adelines, was a serious card player, an avid book reader, enjoyed needlework, gardening and traveling. She loved sports, especially golf and tennis, and always enjoyed a good football game, rooting for Penn State and Notre Dame.
