
OAKLAND – Donald Edward Rankins, 81, of Oakland, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017, at his home. He worked for Crop Production Services, and also owned and operated a variety of small businesses through the years.
A funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, at the Krabel Funeral Home. Burial follows in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at the funeral home, with Masonic Rites to follow.
Mr. Rankins was born Sept. 5, 1935, at Oakland, the son of Bruce and Vernie (Dalzell) Rankins.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie Rankins; three children, Jon Rankins (Sarah-Marie Land) of St. Louis, Mo., Lisa (David Duchow) Hugg of Charleston and Mike (Tammy) Hugg of Brocton; a brother, Harold (Jeanne) Rankins of Oakland; a sister, Shirley Apple; 11 grandchildren, Kayla Metcalf, Leah Hugg, Chad (Mindy) Rankins, Tiffany Rankins, Myles Rankins, Morgan Rankins, Ashlee Rankins, John McBrayer, Tamera Rankins, Donnie Rankins and Cherie Rankins; and seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Makayla, Emma, Madeline, Eric, Riley and Charlee.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Randy Rankins, Brian Rankins, and Donny Rankins; two brothers, Bruce and Bob; and three sisters, Alberta, Mary Jane and Betty.
Mr. Rankins was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, the Oakland Masonic Lodge No. 219, the Ansar Temple of Springfield, and the Charleston Moose Lodge. He also enjoyed traveling and playing cards.
Memorial donations may be made to the East Oakland Township Park District for the benefit of the Oakland Pool.
