Bill Hale

OAKLAND – William “Bill” Hale, 67, of Oakland, passed away at 10:41 a.m. Sunday, May 14, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was a Coles County Deputy Sheriff for more than 20 years.

A service celebrating his life is 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Krabel Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 19, at the funeral home.

Mr. Hale was born Dec. 5, 1949, at Terre Haute, Ind., the son of the late William C. and Esther Hale. He married Leola “Lee” Hale Aug. 3, 1969, at Florence, Ariz., and she preceded him in death May 7, 2017.

He is survived by his children, Laura (Greg) Hanks, Jason (Rosemary) Hale, Helena (Jeff) VanTassel; one sister, Janice (Donald) Custis of Coolidge, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren, Vince Hale, Kyle Hanks, Josh Hanks, Tabitha Hanks, Austin Hale, Cody Hale, Dustin Hale, Keith VanTassel, Tristan VanTassel and Alisha VanTassel.


He was preceded in death by one infant brother and two brothers, Bernard Allen Lientz and Harold Eugene Lientz.

Mr. Hale attended the Oak Grove Church at Oakland. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Tawaskote Longrifles. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and black powder guns.
