Her teaching career started in Illinois where she spent seven years teaching at Stewardson-Strasburg and Lincoln. The remainder of her career was at Charter Oak, Calif., where she coached many different sports, including the 1975 state champion field hockey team.
Charter Oak dedicated the 1976 yearbook, “The Shield,” to her by writing: “During her years of thoughtful dedication as a teacher of Charter Oak, Miss Redmon’s fresh enthusiasm towards life has touched the lives of her students – not only a teacher and highly respected coach, but also as a friend. Her appreciation and understanding of the individual, her energetic personality and hard work have been responsible for a tremendous Girls’ Sports Program, which is something to take pride in, and also something ‘Extra Special’…like her.”
Miss Redmon was at the forefront of recognizing and initiating the role of women in organized sports.
In her retirement, she enjoyed woodworking and developed a small business called Splinters, Custom Wood Design. The name later changed to Redmon Woodworking, San Clemente, Calif. She also loved gardening, being with friends and her dog.
Tina Grant, her great friend and former student, looked after and cared for her until the end.
