
Virginia R. Reed, 81, of Houston, Texas, and formerly of Vermilion, passed away at 1:19 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at Legend Oaks Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Houston. She was a homemaker and had also worked at the former U.O. Colson and Zenith Companies of Paris.
Graveside services are 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Fairview Cemetery, near Kansas, with the Rev. Curtis Mitchell officiating. Burial follows. At her request, no visitation is scheduled. Templeton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Reed was born Oct. 29, 1935, at Topkinsville, Ky., the daughter of the late Oscar and Hettie Belle Dickerson Steen.
Survivors include six children, Dan Reed of Arcola, Floyd Allen Reed of Paris, Ginny Lynn (Jon) Adams of Houston, Theresa (Larry) Smith of Redmon, Tony (Angela) Reed of West Terre Haute, Ind., and Johnny Kemper of Marshall; five stepchildren, Sharon Rodriguez of Gas City, Ind., Kathy (Tony) Rhoads of Paris, Mike (Paula) Kemper of Paris, Rowdy (Georganna) Reed of Evansville, Ind., and Matt (Julie) Reed of Paris; two brothers, Wayne (Mary Ann) Steen of Leesburg, Fla., and Bobby (Gloria) Steen of Dixon, Tenn.; a sister, Betty Ann McDaniel of Paris; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three husbands, Earnest Reed Sr., Charles A. Kemper and Jimmy Reed; a son, Earnest "Butch" Reed Jr., two stepchildren, Pam Reed and Arnie Kemper; and two brothers, Glen and Jack Steen.
Mrs. Reed will be remembered as a kind, loving, and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
