Georgie Ann McDonald Campbell, 84, of Paris, died Jan. 4, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was a retired teacher.
A memorial service is 11 a.m. Jan. 12 at Community Bible Church, 200 S. High Street, with Pastor Dave Laborde officiating. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Mrs. Campbell was born June 24, 1932, at Giddings, Texas, the oldest child of the late Harold George Luther McDonald and Reifa Augusta Etzel McDonald. She married Ernie Campbell in 1957, and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Gary) Taylor and Kathy (Blane) Campbell; granddaughters Katherine and Elizabeth Taylor; and her two best friends her cousin, Rosalie Scott and sister-in-law, Beverly McDonald.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold McDonald and Ted Ennis McDonald.
Mrs. Campbell was a courageous woman who learned to drive at the age of 12 to help support her family. She was known for sharing in adventures with her brother, Harold and cousin, Rosie, whom she regarded as partners in crime and fun.
She worked as a teenager in the family diner during World War II and, although she was not yet an adult, her job made her a recipient of ration books. She frequently gave her chocolate bars to younger brother Harold.
After graduating from Giddings High School, where she was elected All-School Favorite as a sophomore and Peanut Princess, she received her BA in Education from the University of Texas at Austin. She briefly taught kindergarten at Austin before becoming a flight attendant with American Airlines. She met her future husband on a blind date, during her time as a flight attendant.
Mrs. Campbell resumed teaching after marriage and raised a family in north Texas. The couple remained in north Texas after retirement and took up traveling. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a faithful member of Saint Phillip Presbyterian Church in Hurst, Texas, until moving to Paris to be closer to family. She was a kind person, who enjoyed learning about others. She endured personal struggles but was a lady and earned the respect of those who knew her well.
The family expresses gratitude to the staff of Paris Community Hospital Swing Bed and at Senior Care for their loving kindness and care.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
