Rose Steidl, 95, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at Jacksonville, N.Y. She retired from Cornell University with the title of professor emeritus in 1980.
A private graveside service and burial will be held in the spring. Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home is assisting the family with the local arrangements.
Miss Steidl was born and raised in Paris, the daughter of the late Dominic and Viola Rose Steidl.
She is survived by one sister, Sister Martha; two brothers, Frank and Walter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Charles; and two sisters, Virginia and Mary Ida Riedell.
Miss Steidl received her undergraduate degree from St. Mary of the Woods College and earned her master’s degree and Ph.D. from Cornell University, with a focus on home management and family economics.
While at Cornell, she co-authored the college textbook “Work in the Home,” which became the major reference nationally and internationally for students studying the management of human resources through the design of work and workplaces. The book was also used by manufacturers of household equipment, kitchen designers and professionals working with people with physical limitations. The book was also translated into Japanese.
Her interests included genealogy, traveling, nature and birding. Her family will miss her kindness, generous spirit and sense of humor.
